Unifor rallies across the country for cleaners | Unifor National
Unifor B.C. Area Director Gavin McGarrigle, B.C. Federation of Labour Jim Sinclair and activists with cleaners on the 10th floor of the Cadillac Fairview offices at 609 Granville Street in Vancouver. A decision by Cadillac Fairview was made to replace the contract of these cleaners, some who have been cleaning their offices for decades to another company paying around $1.50 an hour less and no benefits. The photos were taken on the 10th floor because rather than providing these workers with an explanation they chose to lock their doors and elevators denying them access. After a couple of hours Gavin and Jim met with representatives from Cadillac Fairview. Stay tuned. Click these links for more.

International Solidarity Rally Against Union Busting
Sisters and Brothers,
We need maximum support for the BC Fed April 2 solidarity rally at the Peace Arch border crossing. U.S. workers are under vicious anti-union attack by Republicans in Wisconsin and elsewhere and it has already started spreading to Toronto where the municipal and provincial government is preparing to ram through changes to make transit an essential service..
Jim must have the numbers before 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning to pass on to the BC FED.
Buses for mainlanders are scheduled to leave Scott Road Station at 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. Please send an e-mail message (indicating your name and which bus time you want) to buses@bcfed.ca in order to reserve a seat on a bus. The buses will return participants to the Scott Road Skytrain station immediately after the event (starting at approximately 3:30 p.m.) Participants are encouraged to use transit or take advantage of the "Park and Ride" lot at Scott Road.
CBSA informs us that participants could be asked for proof of Canadian residence and/or proof of citizenship/immigrant status. The easiest way to provide this would be with a Canadian passport. If you do not have a passport, please bring government issued photo identification (i.e.- driver’s license) and birth certificate or Canadian immigration document.

A number of activists from the CAW also worked on this campaign. A step in the right direction but still a long way to go. Click the link below for the news release from the B.C. Federation of Labour
