Bill C-4 will destroy workers health and safety, Unifor to tell House of Commons committee

OTTAWA, Nov. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Officials from Unifor, Canada's largest federal sector union, will be presenting to the House of Commons Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (HUMA) committee on Nov 19 on why the omnibus Federal Budget Implementation Bill C-4 will have serious repercussions for the health and safety of the tens of thousands of workers in federally-regulated sectors. Unifor Health, Safety and Environment Director Sari Sairanen and Unifor Atlantic Regional Director Lana Payne will present on behalf of the union. Both have extensive knowledge of health and safety concerns within federally-regulated sectors. Federally regulated sectors include marine shipping, ferry and port services, air transportation, railway and road transportation that involves crossing provincial or international borders, canals, pipelines, tunnels and bridges (crossing provincial borders), telecommunications, radio and television broadcasting, grain elevators, feed and seed mills, uranium mining and processing and a number of other areas dealing with First Nations activities and protecting the fisheries as a natural resource, with Unifor representing more than 80,000 federally-regulated workers.
